Step 1:
Check to ensure you have everything – cills, end caps, gaskets, packing, etc.
Step 2:
Make sure you’ve got a glazing wedge. Make sure the cill is in the right place. Ensure that the cill is perfectly level. Apply sealant to the wall and the surrounding area.
Step 3:
Now you can put the window on the cill and in the opening. Make sure the window is level, plumb, and square by putting packers in the corners. Measuring the diagonals will let you know if the frame is square. There shouldn’t be more than 1 or 2mm between A and B.
Step 4:
Make sure you screw into the thermocouple at the bottom of the cill using two screws (do not screw through the drain holes).
Step 5:
Whenever possible, the first fixing should be within 150mm of each corner and at no more than 600mm intervals. Do not overtighten the first fixation. Put packing around the fixings, so the frame doesn’t distort. Using foam will not be a substitute for screwing, and you should be careful not to get it in contact with painted finishes or trickle vents. Both sides of the outer frame should be fixed into the brickwork. The head should be fixed into steel or brick. If the diagonals aren’t equal, fix them. You can use fixing lugs if direct fixing isn’t required.
Step 6:
Take off the glass beads. You might have to trim back the external gaskets. All windows that open need to be ‘toed and heeled’ properly. The windows won’t work if you don’t heel and toe correctly. - Warm soapy water softens the gaskets.
